La pizza e’ un piatto completo che viene prodotta in diversi sapori, e con tipi di crosta di spessore diverso e profili nutritivi che variano secondo la localita’ geografica. Un conversazione incentrata sulla pizza e’ sicuramente un’ottima risorsa per gli italiani e Italo-Americani che vivono a Seattle e che adorano questo piatto. La discussione, in italiano, sara’ interattiva con lo scopo di condividere non solo nozioni, ma anche opinioni e esperienze dei partecipanti. Alla fine della sessione i partecipanti potranno: 1) conoscere la storia della pizza e favorire l’interesse in un piatto che ampiamente consumato da Americani e Italiani 2) utilizzare informazioni nutrizionali sul consumo della pizza in modo da gustare questo piatto pur restando in forma.
Pizza is a mixed dish that comes in different flavors, crust thickness levels and nutrient profiles that vary in different geographical locations. A wellness talk centered around pizza be a useful resource for Italians and Italian Americans living in Seattle. The talk, in Italian, will be interactive with the purpose of sharing not only notions but also participants’ experiences and opinions. By the end of the session, participants will be able to 1) describe the history of pizza to promote interest in a popular mixed dish that is commonly eaten both in Italy and the US and 2) apply nutrition information to the consumption of pizza in order to enjoy pizza while staying healthy.
About our speaker:
Francesca Simonella is a 28-year-old intern of the Graduate Coordinated Program in Dietetics at the University of Washington as well as a graduate researcher at the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center. She comes from Udine, Italy. Francesca has obtained a BS and MS in Medical Biotechnology, pursued postgraduate continuing education in Dietetics and passed a national board examination to work as a Nutrition Biologist. Francesca always wanted to elevate the role of nutrition in individual health care and public health and collaborate with physicians on complex cases to meet individual needs according to a science-based approach. Thus, in Summer 2014 she moved from Udine to Seattle. Thanks to the program at the UW, she can now lead nutrition education lessons and deal with complex patients in different settings.
