NOI — Not an Ordinary Italian Class

Italian Language Program for Children

The most effective way to learn a second language is to put the young children in situations where the second language surrounds them. And the earlier a child learns a second language, they say, the more likely he or she will quickly attain language proficiency.

Il Punto’s NOI Program offers your child the possibility to be surrounded with the Italian language through conversations and social activities. Expose your children to multilingual settings and give them plenty of opportunities to play and speak Italian with other children!

Our three classes — Semini, Germogli, and Alberelli — range from absolute beginner to intermediate, and ages 2 to 12.

For more information about the NOI Program please contact us at noi@ilpuntoseattle.org.

Germogli (Blooming Buds)

Class Description

NOI Germogli is a hands-on program designed for children with little or no exposure to Italian, as well as children that have already taken their first steps in Italian, have a basic grasp of vocabulary, and are ready to put together their first sentences in Italiano! The program will help our “blooming buds” to mature a basic understanding of Italian morphology through games, stories, and group activities. Children won’t just listen and repeat, but start communicating basic needs and ideas in the language. All activities will be conducted solely in Italian.

  • Age: 5 to 10 years old (Exceptions may be made with instructor approval.)
This class involves time spent seated and engaged in activity sheets, games, and group activities. Students must be comfortable in a classroom/school environment.

Children may have no exposure to Italian, or they may have a basic understanding, but are not able to express themselves in the language yet.

Alberelli (Young Trees)

Class Description

NOI Alberelli is our most advanced level of Italian for children. Our “young trees” are students that are already able to speak and tell us more about their life and interests in Italian. Our goal for this group is to be able to produce more complex ideas in Italian, to understand written material and, maybe even to produce some short written sentences on their own! As with other NOI classes, our approach uses games and activities, but NOI Alberelli integrates exercises specifically designed to allow our students to absorb some essential grammar and morphology, allowing them to be more confident in their reading and writing in the language.

  • Age: 7 to 12 years old (Exceptions may be made with instructor approval.)
Worksheets and grammar activities will be a central part of this class, as well as games. Minimal writing and reading skills are required.
  • Level: Low Intermediate
Children must already speak in Italian and be able to understand it. Our students at this level should be able to read and write in English. (No worries, we don’t need spelling champions! Just basic reading and writing.)
  • Length: 90 minutes
Resources and Materials

All material will be provided by the instructor.
